The ShopCity.com system was developed in-house by our talented team of designers and programmers with inspiration from the following notable companies and individuals:
Interface - the new site look, including the navigation bar, alphabetical business index, search box, shopping cart status indicator and top navigation pods were inspired by the lovely unsolicited mock-up of the Zappos.com website produced by Andrew Wilkinson at MetaLab. Andrew was not involved in the production of ShopCity.com, but we hope he and his talented team will be in the future.
Marketplace - the core functionality as well as certain design elements of our multi-merchant marketplace were inspired by Etsy, the marketplace for handcrafted goods. Our team saw the potential for this type of simple marketplace to be used by non-handcrafted local businesses and incorporated a similar system into our offering.
Icons & fonts - 98% of the icons used came from one standard icon set, while a couple of others were recreated using inspiration from icons found out on the web. The font used on ShopLocally.com is called 'Hero' from www.fontfabric.com.
Logos - the Twitter, Facebook and YouTube logos are used without direct permission but with the understanding that if everyone else can do it, so can we. :-)
All other functions and features, including the business control panel and overall concept arrived 'out of thin air', much to the benefit of local businesses all over the world.
- The ShopCity.com Development Team
No graphic designers or programmers were injured in the making of
ShopCity.com. While the similarities between these works should be
obvious, great pains were taken to ensure that credit is given and that
all work was reproduced from scratch and not used directly. The companies listed above were not directly involved in the production of ShopCity.com.
